BBC Introducing Relaunched
The successful BBC Introducing night in Reading is moving onwards and upwards with a glittering relaunch party on Wednesday 13 May featuring some of the country's best breaking bands.
The weekly Wednesday night showcase, Shout About Music, is decamping to the larger venue of the Oakford Social Club in Blagrave Street and the opening night will host hotly-tipped Baddies, who'll be blasting the roof off the place with their dizzying throaty pop.
NME have tipped them for 2009, advising us to "catch them before they explode", while Artrocker has described them as "on a mission to make The Futureheads look lethargic".
Also on the bill are Belfast indie trio General Fiasco, who played on the BBC Introducing stage at Reading and Leeds last year and are now fast becoming one of the UK's most promising acts.
Sharing the stage will be 8-bit electro bleep sensations Midi Midis from Reading and local crazy kids Elliot To Hong Kong.
Shout About Music's move to the Oakford from previous venue Bar Four will allow some of the biggest up-and-coming touring bands to perform alongside the Berkshire's top talent.
Promoter Jack Hepplewhite says: "BBC Introducing has helped propel Reading onto the national map for unsigned, undiscovered and under-the-radar talent.
"The Oakford Social Club is leading the way for live music venues in Reading, and it made perfect sense that we should move the live show to this stage."
A recording from the night will be played on Linda Serck's BBC Radio Berkshire show the Sunday following the gig.
She says "BBC Introducing in Reading has been such a success story and I'm really proud of the talented local bands that have made this possible."
