World Music Stars Reading Bound
Critically acclaimed, BBC World Music Award nominated Lo’Jo bring their unique Gallic sound to Reading’s Concert Hall on 28 May
Their songs, hot from the pen of lead singer and Gallic visionary Denis Péan, are snappily dressed in a mixture of French musette, chanson, African, Arabic, gypsy, dub, funk and jazzical sounds that makes Lo'Jo's music so unique and indefinable. They come to Reading’s Concert Hall on Thursday 28 May
“Lo’Jo should be playing big stadiums and festivals. Anyone able to catch them in a small club should count themselves very lucky” - The Guardian
Having toured the world extensively they were instrumental in staging the first Festival in the Desert in Mali. Denis Pean, Lo’Jo’s founder, is a poet philosopher in the finest French tradition. He formed Lo’Jo, a band of musicians, artists and actors, twenty-five years ago, and they have developed into one of France’s great musical families.
Now based in a chateau in the beautiful countryside outside Angers, Lo’Jo have become a tight band whose communal living is reflected in the intense musical connection that exists between its members.
Nominated for a BBC World Music Award, Lo’Jo continue to tour successfully in the UK and internationally. A record celebrating their 25th anniversary was released in 2008 and a new album is planned for 2009.
“They have to be one of the best live bands in the world now."
