Reading on Fire
Following up last month’s successful rebirth, Club Velocity’s Reading on Fire night returns to Plug n Play on 13 June, this time headed up by MidiMidis, Reading’s finest 8-bit punks.
Reading on Fire is a monthly night celebrating the best in local talent.
MidiMidis
Reading 8 bit punks who have creating quite a stir locally for the last twelve months. Recently word has been getting out a bit further, with huge support for the band from Huw Stephens at Radio 1, Tom Robinson at 6 Music and John Kennedy and Eddy Temple-Morris at XFM. They have already played TignesFest 2009 in France and are already booked for Sceret Garden, Glade and Bug Jam.
“What stops MidiMidis from becoming yet another 8-bit cliché is their attention to song structure…and the nice DFA 1979 style live execution. If you once owned a NES and have records by Test Icicles and The Strokes (circa This Is It), then you should make the effort to catch these tuneful two asap,” XyntheX DJ
Mr Fogg
A rare live show by the bedroom master of pop. Mr Fogg is very well respected with some of the true music taste makers. He has recorded live sessions for Janice Young (Radio 2) and Tom Robinson (6 Music)
“Ace, ace, ace”
Huw Stephens (Radio 1)
“A one-man wall of intelligent electronics”
Drowned In Sound
Om Corporation
Three guys that create music which on paper really should not work. Thankfully it does; they sound so wonderfully different. Mix a cello, a guitar and a drummer and 60 years of forward thinking jazz, added to a punk rock attitude and you get OM Corporation.
Vienna Ditto
Many moons ago, the main players in the Reading music scene were a little known band called Riser. Now nearly 15 years down the line comes a new musical adventure. Vienna Ditto deal in music for the head and the soul. This will be their debut live gig.
“Portishead doing a Taranito soundtrack”
