Asian Arts Festival
Reading Borough Council’s Art’s Development Team are putting on an impressive display of the traditional and contemporary in Asian music, dance, visual arts and craft to celebrate the wealth and diversity of Reading’s culture
Now firmly established in the local calendar, Reading’s eighth annual cultural celebration, ‘Dhoom Dhamaka’ is taking place from the 23 June to the 25 July 2009. With twenty events at eight venues over thirty three days, this partnership event offers opportunities to discover, taste, experience and enjoy some of the variety of South Asian arts, traditions, customs and culture as presented in the UK today.
Below are some of the musical highlights from the festival.
Mexico
An exclusive collaboration between French jazz trumpet maestro Erik Truffaz, acclaimed Mexican electronic composer Murcof, and highly celebrated tabla player Talvin Singh. Mexico is a brand new suite of music. The three collaborators create a vibrant, jazz-inflected, ambient soundscape conjuring the colours and image of Mexico City. Mexico makes up one part of a triple album called Rendez-vous, inspired by Paris, Benares and Mexico City.
