Outside:Inside Festival

Reading’s most extensive music and food festival taking place over the summer months kicks off on Saturday night. There’s so much on offer here we don’t know where to start

The unveiling of a town centre music and food festival is bringing a cultural revolution to the streets of Reading. Throughout July and August the Outside:Inside festival will be celebrating world food and world music in the town

Not satisfied with conventional formats this festival has pushed the boundaries by abolishing eye-watering ticket prices and introducing not one but seven impressive outdoor arenas. Stages will be popping up all across town from Broad Street to The Oracle. As well as these innovative free outdoor arenas, smaller more intimate and exclusive venues such as local restaurants and bars will be opening their doors to indulge music lovers across all genres.

Top local promoters Mr Blind Pig in conjunction with Reading UK CIC's Business Improvement District(BID) will be ensuring each stage provides an eclectic mix of world music, from Indie and Electronica to Reggae, Funk and Dubstep. Jack Hepplewhite of Mr Blind Pig sees the festival as a great opportunity for the area,

"Reading has one of the most vibrant and diverse communities around and we aim to reflect this in the line-up for this festival. The town is bursting with amazing musicians and it's about time this fact was flaunted - by opening up the great outdoor spaces the town has to offer we hope to get locals excited about music in Reading."

And there's a lot to get excited about, with confirmed headline acts such as Eighties Matchbox B-line Disaster, Let's Wrestle, George Pringle and My Toys Like Me.

Although the music is inspired by all corners of the globe the focus is very much on supporting local talent.

The aim is to encourage decent music onto the streets of Reading - not only for the duration of the festival but for the months ahead. Furthermore, there will be Meltdown: Stages, where acts have the chance to compile and collate their own tailor-made shows. Support for the festival is also local, coming from Reading UK CIC, Reading Post and Reading Borough Council.

The festival is planning to kick of to an explosive start on Saturday, 4 July with sets from George Pringle and An Horse. The Outside Buskers Unplugged Stage on Broad Street opens on the 16 July and the Main Stage at South Court on the 25 July. Plenty of freebies, including exclusive ticket giveaways are on offer for those who come early.
