White Sunday at Oakford

Reading quartet White Sunday set an Oakford Social Club record on Friday night with a sell out show that left over 150 late comers queuing round the block hoping to get a glimpse of the band. The Blagrave Street venue was packed to the rafters to see the brit-rock band’s comeback show.
Front man James Glanville and co have been locked away in writing and rehearsal sessions, stripping their sound and writing new material, and the end product is explosive. Opener ‘Musical Inner Piece’ was followed by Glanville asking ‘Do you like rock n’roll?’ to a rapturous reception before launching into ‘Have You Heard?’ and the scene was set.

White Sunday tore through a high octane hour long set that included new tracks ‘Common Life‘, ‘Stop Messing Around‘, and ‘Sick As Your Secret’, as well as familiar tracks ‘Chaperone’ and ‘My Love It Let Me Down’. The electric atmosphere spilled over when ’Why Do I Do This Everyday’ caused some serious moshing the likes of the Oakford has never witnessed. That might have had something to do with first class touring production White Sunday’s crew brought for the show.

After a similar packed show at the Oakford the last time they played the venue, word has obviously spread and message board rumours are rife the band are close to signing a major record deal.

Glanville said after the gig, ‘We’ve been working flat out to strip White Sunday back to the bare bones and build up the sound we all wanted. We’ve brought in a new drummer and taken away a guitarist and it’s never sounded so fresh.

‘We’re proud to be from Reading, a town that’s on the map because of it’s rock history, but not because of any bands and we’re determined the change that. ‘It was great to see so many people turn out to see us tonight and I’m just sorry some couldn’t get in. Hopefully we’ll be playing some more shows soon to make up for it.’
