Toxic Funk Berry replace The Apples
The Apples: less of a crumble and more like a turnover
Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have to inform you that The Apples will no longer be performing at the Oakford on the 6th March. But the night certainly has not turned into a crumble yet, as we introduce to you the deliciously named, irresistibly catchy Toxic Funk Berry.
As we raided the fruit bowl one more time, there was no doubting the brothers Joe and Dom Berditch and their own brand of electro-funk-punk-soul fusion, would fill up our music appetites at Reading’s Oakford Social Club on Saturday 6 March with their signature explosive live experience. Joined by drummer Jonny Wharton, a recent addition to “beef up” their sound, their live ‘mash ups’ pack even more of a punch (enough of the fruit related similarities please).
With an act that essentially consists of mixing other artists’ work with their own compositions, (known in the trade as a ‘mash up’)Dom explains, TFB tread a fine and carefully planned line between traditional DJs and live bands – a route successfully navigated in the past by such luminaries as Run DMC and Gorillaz.
“We’ve all been in traditional live bands for years,” adds the former punk band veteran. “The TFB project gives us the excitement of playing live but allows us so much more creativity. We can literally do anything we like on stage and that’s an amazing feeling.”
And where better to showcase their impressive blend of popular known tunes and their mashed up live remixes than at We All Live And Die, the no-holds barred anything-goes party night. With support from BBC Introducing Dj Jac Bon Cochon and electro DJ Ibetya, Toxic Funk Berry are sure to impress upon the acclaimed Oakford stage.
Expect Michael Jackson, with a plethora of synthed up beats and breaks fromThe WALAD boys will be trying their very hardest to keep up the pace with their eclectic mix of left-field, centre-field and right-in-your-face-field party tunes.
We All Live And Die is the brainchild of local BBC Introducing LIVE DJ /Promoter Jac Bon Cochon( Mr Blind Pig) and Electro DJ IBetYa. The duo have already scooped a series of high profile names to WALAD from Dan Le Sac, Keith Tenniswood, Bass Clef, DJ Derek and Lovefoxx from Brazillian band CSS. The night has recently expanded their residencies to London’s uber-cool venue The Flowerpot, with venues in Bristol and Brighton to be announced in 2010.
