The Damned - 18 May
Formed in London, England, in 1976. The group's original members found each other while performing in an assortment of short-lived outfits during punk's initial days.
Brian James (a founder member and guitarist) christened the group The Damned after a 1969 movie of the same name. It was also a name said to be descriptive of the band's hapless state of affairs at the time.
The group rehearsed for six weeks before playing their first show on July 6th 1976, as an opening act for the Sex Pistols at London's 100 Club. The Damned quickly earned a reputation as a viable act on the circuit.
They have incorporated numerous styles into their music and image, including: garage rock, psychedelic rock, cabaret and many more.
Although The Damned have had a turbulent history, there is no doubt that their music and attitude still prevail with all the energy of that original 1976 line-up, and their back catalogue of 8 studio albums have endured the test of time... and whatsmore, they've outlasted most of their 70's punk contemporaries!
The current line-up is David Vanian (Vocals); Captain Sensible (Guitar & Vocals); Pinch (Drums); Monty Oxy Moron (Keyboards) and Stu West (Bass).
