Josaka update

Posted: Mon, 31 May 2010

Things have been a little quiet around here and so we thought you were due an update.

Technical troubles

It seems that our last software upgrade a couple of months back stopped our website forms from functioning. We have to be the first to admit it took us a while to notice. You see, so many people email us directly that there was still plenty of stuff coming our way.

So - if you've contacted us since January using a form on the website we probably didn't get it - get back in touch if you still want to speak to us.

The forms are now fixed - when you use our contact form you should always see a message telling you the submission was successful.

Web content

We've been pretty short of pairs of hands and time for adding news articles recently. One thing is for sure; despite trying Kevin and I don't have time to do it properly.

We're currently considering options to enable people to get their press releases and news on the site in an editorially good way. We could move to a more wiki like site - thoughts welcome...to that end at the moment we'd like a new...

News editor

We're on the hunt for a new news editor to help manage the press releases that go on the site - if you're interested please get in touch.

This is our 'traditional' way of doing things. If you're someone interesting in writing/editing and have a couple of hours free each week you could really help us out.

Label news

As the label news is all so wonderful I'm going to post some much happier updates than this one so they can stand in their own right! What I will say is that MidiMidis, Sixty Watt Bayonets, My Luminaries and Golden Hours are all on the 2010 list of releases that have happened or are about to happen.

We're delighted with how well the releases have been going this year.

Thanks for your support.

Jim

May I suggest that you limit the number of articles in your RSS feed? I don't think it's necessary to list all 450 articles since the site began - 10 would probably suffice.

    Hi Pete,

Yeah, I'll look at limiting it - the reader I use only shows the last 3 - hence having not really thought about it. Out of interest how do you use the feed?

    Hi Pete,

I've done that - has that worked for you?

Jim, thanks, that's working fine. I use Google Reader to view feeds, and the issue was brought to my attention when I discovered 450 "new" articles appeared over the weekend (presumably as a consequence of some site maintenance that you've been doing).

Having an unlimited list of articles in the feed has two potential problems: firstly, if the entire feed is regenerated, as above, then people see 450 "new" messages instead of just 10. Secondly, it means that you need to use an ever-increasing amount of bandwidth just serving RSS feeds (at this present moment, 500KB per hit instead of 11KB)

    Hope all this makes sense.

(I've got another minor request to make - on these comments lists, can you insert a line break between the comment author's name and their comment?)

    Thanks

    Pete

    Hi Pete,

That line break thing was annoying me too - I've done it now.
