High Velocity
It's a busy weekend for Club Velocity and friends with an all-day Rising Sun fundraiser on Saturday, a gig at Play that evening and the launch of Eden Music on Sunday featuring Romanian chart-toppers Grimus.
Here Comes the Sun - One day music and arts festival
The aim of this summer celebration is to raise much-needed funds for the upkeep of the venue through ticket sales, as well as providing an eclectic day's entertainment for the local community, with a diverse line-up of music, art, dance, poetry, children's activities, arts and market stalls, filmmaking, workshops and plenty to eat and drink in a relaxed atmosphere.
More than 20 live bands will be performing on two stages. Headlining the line-up are The Heartwear Process and Ben Marwood. Also performing on the day are Circulus, Damien A Passmore, Dolly & The Clothes Pegs, Neon Hire Wire, 60 Watt Bayonets, Alison Baily, Rhapsodaisical, The Occasional Orchestra, Red Hot Bagels, music to put your dancing shoes on for with Silver Heels and Tango Select, The Worms, Up-c-down-c, The Children's Arkestra, Hiding Giants, Sammy Beatnix, Jennifer Graham, late night ambience with Earth Creatures and Ebbs and Flows.
Festival organiser Amy Gibb said, 'We've had a fantastic response from all the bands, acts and volunteers taking part in our festival and we really appreciate all their support for The Rising Sun. Here Comes The Sun is a great day out, celebrating music and arts, something for everyone to enjoy.'
The Rising Sun Arts Centre is almost entirely run by volunteers and the festival is the first event of its kind to be staged at the venue. It's an ambitious project for the team, who hope to build on the success of the centre's open day held earlier in the year to raise the organisation's profile. The goal now is to raise funds to maintain the centre's listed building while continuing to offer the most original arts programme in town.

Dead Mask Club
It does not matter, what they used to be called. They have grown their hair, got tattoos
and their balls are now much bigger. They now deal in heavy riffage, with superhard songs. They have taken over where many of the old school Reading bands failed. They are still young, nubile and rock harder than hell.
Diamond Lines
Main stayers of the short lived, but hugely influential Reading 'Thug Scene' Wonderful post baggy indie guitar sex for the Miaow generation. Tony Wilson would have loved these chaps. Think Flowered Up/Northside/Happy Mondays. Tunes that reflect you and me. Beats and guitars galore. Sexy.

Jack of Both Sides
Fresh faced pretty boys, who are young in age as in history. They look great, they own all the right records. They sound like The Horrors, if they really wanted to sound like the Telescopes. These boys are good already, buy them an Electric Eels box set they would be even better. The greatest blast-fuzzed-first out-gaze back to come out of RG1 since Chapterhouse.

Echo Main
Four groovy musos from Reading. They were called Crowded South for about 15 seconds-but the
lawyers of Crowded House where straight on the phone and threatened to kill the band if they didnt change the name within 24 hours. Echo Main it is now. They deal in great POP indie ditties that hasn't been this good - oh since time began. Songs that might appeal to more than 12 people. Huge
potential band alert. They also have a bass player called Daisy. That sold us, straight away.

Eden Music launch
Born in late 2009 Eden Music Management is a DIY production company/record label and music PR company. The home of record producer Adam Whittaker and PR and journalist Luisa Garcia. They bring a selection of artists they're working with to Play.
Amy's Ghost
A multi-talented band from Reading fronted by singer/songwriter Amy Barton, combining a no holds barred attitude and a mutual craving to produce original music, this selection of personalities made the natural evolution from studio project into live act.
Creating moments of beauty and fragility contrasting with tribal rhythms, filthy bass and mesmerizing sample loops, their sound dynamically achieves all this while still producing classic original songs.
What Amy's Ghost delivers on record, they exceed in their highly visual live performances. Drawn in to the band's compulsive energy, many ears become one, the watchers standing unified like some entranced collective.
"an impressive set from Reading band Amy's Ghost...." - The Independent.
Grimus
Hail from Cluj-Napoca, Romania. They started in 2006, where they met at the city university. They are named after the Salman Rushdies 1975 novel Grimus. He is a fan. 2009 was the year that their homeland started to take them seriously. Their debut album, was hailed as the Romanian album of the year, they were played heavily on numerous Romanian radio stations. This will be the debut Reading gig proper.
Adam Whittaker discovered them via myspace, was so impressed by what he heard. He went to Romania, which led to him recording them and those sessions created their debut UK single 'Started' - it has already reached number two in Romanian airplay charts, it will be released in August. This six piece sound like Muse giving The Killers a back rub.
Attention Thieves
An exciting new four piece band from Reading. Formed in 2009 Attention Thieves are ready to show you what they're made of. With just a handful of gigs under their belt these boys already gained praise in the musical underground.

Vetoes
Originally from Cambridge, but moved to Reading to progress their band further. That was less than a year ago. They have already raised through the ranks of the local music scene and fast become main players. Clever, demanding, complex and bendy forward thinking music for people like something to get their hands on and have a good chew.
"Vetoes in short form are simply indie, rock and roll at its best." Jenny Minard, BBC Introducing/The Session BBC Berkshire
DJ Steve Reynolds will be spinning all night.
