Getting bigger and bolder with each year, South Hill Park announce an incredible line-up for Big Day Out 1 Day Festival of Music & Performing Arts and an additional, small Fringe Festival sandwiched either side. Nearly all of which is FREE again this year.
In 2008, there is more going on than ever, with a very strong line-up on the main Fire Stage culled from the best in world, jazz, alternative folk and Independent rock. Expect exceptional performances from Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba who won best Band at the BBC World Music Awards and The Neil Cowley Trio, who won Best Album at the BBC Jazz Awards. Both groups have performed outstanding sets on Jools Holland's BBC show Later in the past six months. Laura Veirs and The Destroyers are also firm favourites on the festival circuit and great artists in their own right.
Free buses will run at specific times during the weekend, helping people get to and from the Town Centre, where a major outdoor event, World Famous' & Cartoon De Salvo's Meltdown performance will be happening on Sunday 13 July as a major Fringe event. The Full time-table can be found on www.southhillpark.org.uk or www.myspace.com/bigdayoutuk
Big Day Out grew out of the changes from South Hill Park's previous three day festival and has since become the family friendly music festival highlight of the Berkshire area every year. Since 2004 Big Day Out has grown momentum and stature, becoming a very important date in any festival goer's diary.
William Trevelyan, Festival Coordinator said, "This is definitely the best line-up we've had for Big Day Out since it began and also the most expansive. If you're looking for strength in depth and eclecticism, Big Day Out has it."
Big Day Out's main sponsors are Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, Panasonic and Gayles Brewery, who were willing to develop financial support for summer festivities in 2008. This year there is a strong 'green theme', helped enormously by being in partnership with the Bracknell's Environmental Partnership and particularly, the Waste & Recycling Unit.
"I'm pleased to say that we're also getting more ambitious, creating a Fringe Festival around BDO to allow the arts to be enjoyed by people who can't necessarily come to SHP or want something really different. It's for everyone especially people who want events which support the town and the park, not just SHP." William Trevelyan, Festival Coordinator.
This is a perfect event, fun for all the family and it's free. See you there!
