Outside:Inside Festival
Reading based promoter Mr Blind Pig have packaged their gigs between now and October into an urban festival claiming their mission is to save us from spiralling inflation and the credit crunch. How jolly good of them.
Now if I was a cynic I'd say they'd used some things making national news as an angle to promote gigs they were planning to do any way, a cunning promotional ruse no less. As I'm not a cynic obviously I didn't think that.
I will give them credit for being right about many festivals failing this year but I think it's more about saturation than weather or ticket prices. As I write this I'm hurtling up north on a high speed train and it's blue skies and sunshine all the way!
So back to the press release...
With money issues becoming an increasing problem, festival ticket prices going through the roof and the washout of the British summer, this year has seen scores of festivals across the country fail to sell out their tickets, fail to pay their acts, or fail to even happen. Local Reading promoters Mr Blind Pig, have come to the rescue, announcing the mammoth Outside:Inside Festival, across an impressive 3 months of partying, an eclectic mix of stages, and a jaw dropping amount of acts and DJ's.
"It is a shame to see so many festivals come a cropper this year, perhaps the commercial aspect at most festivals these days, with the corporate advertising, the expensive by-on-site policy with alcohol and the steeply rising ticket prices, you can comprehend why people are choosing to stay away. This is why we have pushed to bring the Outside: Inside Festival to Reading, allowing easier to get to (and mainly free) stages across the venues and outside space in Reading City Centre" says Jack Hepplewhite from Mr Blind Pig.com, organisers of the festival.
The various 'tents' will host an array of mixed acts and will include a 'Swing and Tea' tent, a special 'BBC Introducing...' tent which will record local up and coming acts to air on The Session, BBC Radio Berkshire's new music show.
There will be a big monthly after-party and an early evening garden party stage.
The Outside:Inside website will offer the festival goers the chance to comment on the official festival blog, see images from the festival, and see the most up to date festival line up as well as a map of the festival site and venue locations.
There will also be a members section where people can sign up to receive free music podcasts and downloads.
Participating venues include, Oakford Social Club, Plug N Play Studios, Pitcher & Piano, Varsity Bar, Mango Bar and Bar Four.
